Summary
The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) is an intergovernmental organization of the countries in the African Great Lakes Region, a focus of which is jointly combating transnational crime and terrorism at a regional level. ICGLR’s approach to counterterrorism is to combine the spheres of terrorism and transnational crime more broadly and to address the associated issues at a regional level. The organization’s strategy includes improving national and regional cooperation and capacity building, enacting counterterrorism legislation and increasing security measures, improving technological integration, and enhancing public awareness.

The members of the ICGLR are Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Republic of South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Zambia.
