Abbreviation

Summary

The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Institute (UNICRI) was established in 1967. It aims to support countries, as well as intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations, in preventing crime and in facilitating criminal justice. As part of its broader criminal-justice and crime-prevention work, the Institute established the Center on Policies to Counter the Appeal of Terrorism. The three main objectives of the Center are to collect relevant information on policies, projects, and programs, especially on prisoners’ rehabilitation; to establish a network of experts in these fields; and to support member states that request assistance in establishing effective rehabilitation and disengagement programs and in countering the appeal of violent extremism and terrorism (especially in prisons).

Partner

The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism – The Hague (ICCT).
