HLS PILAC Research Assistants — Call for Applications Fall 2018

The Harvard Law School Program on International Law and Armed Conflict (HLS PILAC) is pleased to announce a call for applications for Research Assistants from current Harvard Law School students who are 2L or 3L J.D. candidates, LL.M. candidates, or S.J.D. candidates (n.b.: 1Ls are not eligible for this call; please return to our website later this year begins for other opportunities). We are a research program dedicated to exploring contemporary challenges concerning armed conflict through the lens of international law. Over recent years, dozens of HLS students have contributed to an array of HLS PILAC initiatives — including reports on “Medical Care in Armed Conflict: International Humanitarian Law and State Responses to Terrorism,” “War-Algorithm Accountability,” and “Indefinite War: Unsettled International Law on the End of Armed Conflict” — as well as to the academic work of HLS PILAC scholars. Positions are remunerated.

HLS PILAC RAs may contribute to a range of activities, such as:

  • Identifying and evaluating relevant treaty provisions, as well as subsequent practice and agreements;

  • Discerning state practice and opinio juris concerning a particular topic or theme;

  • Drafting bibliographies, research memoranda, and other resources;

  • Summarizing and evaluating contemporary news or historical materials; and

  • Obtaining evidence and analytical resources for research products.

For this call, only current HLS students who are 2L or 3L J.D. candidates, LL.M. candidates, or S.J.D. candidates are invited to fill out the form below and thereby submit an application. We note that we anticipate receiving more applications than available positions.
