The Additional Protocols at 40: Achievements and Challenges
19-20 October 2017
The 18th edition of the Bruges Colloquium will be held on 19 and 20 October 2017.
This year, leading academics, practitioners and international experts will examine a number of legal challenges raised by the application of the Additional Protocols to the Geneva Conventions on the occasion of their 40th anniversary.
It will include discussions on the identification of the main legal issues pertaining to the protection of the delivery of healthcare and the legal challenges arising in ensuring humanitarian access and assistance.
The relationship between the Additional Protocols and International Human Rights Law, as well as the notion of military objective will also be discussed.
Furthermore, two panels will respectively address accountability for serious violations of International Humanitarian Law, and the articulation between the rules pertaining to the conduct of hostilities and the notion of self-defence.
