ARTIS Seminar Series on Political Violence: “Wartime medical care for terrorists” [link to report]
From the website [link] of the Center on Terrorism at John Jay College of Criminal Justice:
Each seminar, hosted by the Center on Terrorism and sponsored ARTIS, focuses on a singular aspect of terrorism. An invited speaker presents on a topic and a question-and-answer period follows. The seminars are free and open to the public; they are also a core component of the Advanced Certificate in Terrorism Studies curriculum offered through the center. We warmly welcome all those interested in or currently working in the field of terrorism. This is an excellent forum for the exchange of ideas helpful to the academic and practitioner alike.
Speaker: Dustin A. Lewis is a Senior Researcher at the Harvard Law School Program on International Law and Armed Conflict. He is also an affiliate at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. With a focus on public international law sources and methodologies, Mr. Lewis leads research projects on the theoretical underpinnings and application of international norms related to contemporary challenges concerning armed conflict. He explores legal, policy, and ethical dimensions of such topics as wartime medical care for terrorists; extraterritorial use of lethal force; the goals of war and the end of war; and dilemmas at the intersection of counterterrorism frameworks and principled humanitarian action. Mr. Lewis is also keenly interested in the legal, normative, and strategic implications of the development and use of new technologies in war. He regularly briefs government officials, United Nations system actors, members of the media, and NGOs on academic and policy research.
