Special event - International law and armed conflict in dark times: A call for engagement
From the PHAP website:
Civilians need to more vigorously engage in understanding the core principles of international humanitarian law (IHL), the body of law that seeks to regulate war. Evolving security challenges, coupled with a lack of transparency on the international legal justification for the use of force and the law applicable in lethal counterterrorism operations, raise the question of whether – and how – IHL will remain a force for protection throughout the 21st century.
In this special evening presentation for PHAP members and guests, Naz Modirzadeh, founding Director of the Harvard Law School Program on International Law and Armed Conflict (PILAC), will examine some of the foremost contemporary challenges to the legal framework of war and their broader implications, and will call for a greater engagement on these vital issues from humanitarian actors and the wider public.
The presentation and Q&A are scheduled for 18:00 to 19:00, and will be followed by a cocktail reception.
