About the speaker

Il-Young Jung is an SJD candidate at Harvard Law School. He studies constitutional law and theory, legal history, comparative studies of East Asian public law, and institutional design of democracies. His supervisors are Professors Noah Feldman, Mark Ramseyer, and William Alford. Before coming to HLS, he received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in law with honors at Seoul National University in South Korea. He then went to work as a researcher in the National Korean Institute of Criminology and as an editor of the Journal of the Korean Society of Legal History. He came to HLS as an LL.M. in 2014 and received the Yong K. Kim writing prize for his LL.M. paper. His SJD dissertation project focuses on the regulation of war powers of a sovereign state through constitutional restraints, using Japan as a case study.

About the series

This series is intended to provide an opportunity for visiting professors and fellows affiliated with HLS to present their research to interested HLS students. Invited speakers will give a presentation on what they are currently working on and would then be available to answer student questions. The events — which are open only to current HLS students, faculty, and staff — will be scheduled for 60 minutes and will be conducted via Zoom’s video meeting system. The events will not be recorded.

Convened by the Harvard Law School Program on International Law and Armed Conflict and the HLS Comparative and International Law Program of Study.
