ECOWAS Counter-Terrorism Coordination Unit

Summary

The Counter-Terrorism Coordination Unit functions as an element of the Economic Community of West African States’ Counter-Terrorism Strategy and Implementation Plan. ECOWAS developed the Counter-Terrorism Strategy and Implementation Plan as a means of reducing terrorism in West Africa as well as implement larger-scale counterterrorism measures in the region and beyond. The Plan is built on a framework of three pillars—prevent, pursue, and reconstruct—and features implementation of instruments such as the ECOWAS Counter-Terrorism Coordination Unit, an ECOWAS arrest warrant, an ECOWAS black list of terrorist and criminal networks, and an ECOWAS Counter-Terrorism Training Manual.
