The application deadline is September 5th at 5 PM EDT
At the Harvard Law School Program on International Law and Armed Conflict (HLS PILAC), we study contemporary challenges concerning armed conflict through the lens of international law. We seek research assistants to help support our research during the fall of 2025. We are looking for students who can demonstrate relevant experience in one or more of the indicated areas. Students must have already taken at least public international law or international humanitarian law to be eligible.
Tracks
This fall, HLS PILAC seeks to hire eligible students only via the “experienced track.” This track is for students who can demonstrate extensive relevant experience — for example, through having completed academic coursework, authored salient publications, or worked as a legal adviser — in one or more relevant areas (as set out below). The program anticipates seeking to hire students via the “novice track” (for students who do not have extensive relevant experience) in the winter of 2025/2026 or the spring of 2026.
Eligibility
Only current HLS 2Ls, 3Ls, LL.M. candidates, and S.J.D. candidates — as well as visiting upper-level students — are eligible to apply. Students must have already taken at least public international law or international humanitarian law to be considered. We aim to notify selected applicants by September 12th. As in previous years, we anticipate receiving more applications than there are available positions. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Research assistants are remunerated at the HLS hourly RA rate.
