Danae Paterson, PILAC Research Assistant
Danae Paterson is a second-year student at Harvard Law School. She has been a research assistant at PILAC since December 2014, contributing to its case studies portfolio. Danae’s professional and academic focus is in negotiation, conflict-affected and transitional states, and the nexus between international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
In the summer of 2014, Danae was a Summer Associate at the Public International Law and Policy Group (PILPG) where she worked, as a recipient of both the Chayes International Public Service Fellowship and the Harvard Program on Negotiations Fellowship, on PILPG’s Yemen team to directly assist Yemen's Constitution Drafting Committee in its transitional negotiations towards becoming a federal state. During Winter Term of 2015, Danae joined PILPG’s Syria Team in the field to implement and facilitate trainings with Syrian civil-society activists on substantive peace-building and transitional processes. Prior to attending Harvard Law School, Danae completed a Masters of Science in Comparative Politics at the London School of Economics. Her Distinction-awarded thesis focused on instrumentalist nationalism theory and women’s rights in Iran. Danae also served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Rwanda, with projects on economic development, post-conflict reconciliation, and gender equality.
