John Garrison is a second-year J.D. student at Stanford Law School and has been a Research Assistant for the HLS Program on International Law and Armed Conflict (HLS PILAC) since September 2023. John is also completing a concurrent M.P.A. at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. At HLS PILAC, John is currently researching the use of open-source information in fact-finding and the investigation of alleged violations of international law applicable in armed conflict.
Previously, John spent ten years as a Combat Systems Officer in the United States Air Force and the Oklahoma Air National Guard. He flew on the U-28A and MC-12W and deployed multiple times throughout Africa and the Middle East. John is currently a senior editor for the Stanford Law and Policy Review and Co-President of Stanford’s Prisoner Legal Services pro-bono program. In 2023, John worked in the Department of Defense’s Office of Legal Counsel, focusing on a range of litigation issues facing the U.S. military. John received his B.A. from Hamilton College in 2010 where he studied Anthropology.
