Summary

In 2005, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan created the Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) to enhance coordination and the coherence of UN counterterrorism efforts. The CTITF includes 30 UN entities (each with a stake in counterterrorism efforts) and INTERPOL. The CTITF provides member states with policy support, promotes the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and its goals, and can expedite the delivery of technical assistance. The CTITF has organized regional workshops for states, regional organizations, civil society, and UN offices to discuss the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and possible challenges to its implementation. Participants in the workshops also discussed best practices and possible strategies for future counterterrorism efforts.

Composition

The Task Force is made up of 30 UN entities and INTERPOL.
